Over the past thirty years, K-Designers has matured from a 4-person construction business based in Casper, Wyoming to one of the Wests largest home remodeling contracting businesses. It all started because of a hail storm, a big one that damaged most of that city. Two siblings, Lee and Larry Judson, knew there was lots of reconstruction to be done, and they showed up hammers in hand hoping to stay six months and make a little money. They ended up staying a year, learning the business and opening a second office in Billings, Montana before spreading out all over the western U.S..
Although the siblings never intended to create a nationwide brand, their initial success in Wyoming naturally led them to other markets. Larry figured that with a model that worked the company could be successful wherever it went. K-Designers is now headquartered near Sacramento, California and has 11 offices that serve 18 states and close to 900 employees. Larry bought the business from Lee in 1990.
Turning K-Designers into a nationwide brand wasnt what the two had in mind, but thats what happened. It was the result of having a clear focus, well-organized systems and strong relationships with manufacturers. The companys growth enabled them to have major pricing and service from manufacturers, and today everything they buy, down to the nails, is direct from the manufacturer. The result is attractive, cost effective work.
