What’s up with 7-Two
In Texas Hold ‘Em poker , there is one starter hand universally considered the worst, and that is 7-2. This is the worst possible poker hand because the 2, even if it pairs on the flop, will be beat by any other pair. The 7 card is right in the middle of the pack, with seven other cards that are higher, and if any of those come out, which is likely, then the 7 is beat too even if it pairs. The main reason 7-2 is considered the worst starting poker online hand is that it is impossible to make a straight with it too. A hand like 7-3 could hit the long shot for a straight, just like A 10 can. What about a suited 7-2? When pocket cards are suited, the added advantage is so small as to be inconsequential. Any Hold ‘Em player who knows anything about the game mucks 7-2 pocket cards. Lately, though there’s been a new craze in Hold ‘Em games, to reward anyone with extra chips who wins with 7-2. How this madness got started is anyone’s guess. It’s only purpose seems to be to keep the worst hand betting into the pot. It’s a silly thing to encourage. Generally, the only way 7-2 wins is because it was dealt to the big blind and no raise came out to cause the blind to fold it. Playing 7-2 is a very bad poker gimmick – except for those sharks, of course, who know how to exploit the fish who fall for this suggestion.
