Google to Compete in the Mobile Market
The new Google handset, christened the Nexus One, has recently been launched by the company. Analysts say that the launch has been made with the sole purpose of mobile advertising.
Whether the Nexus One can stand up in competition with iPhone launched by Apple is a matter of much debate and discussion. Google however has declared that the sole purpose behind the launch is its attempt to consolidate its position in the world of online advertising.
Google’s major USP is of course its search engine and advertising related to it, and this business has net revenue of close to £12 billion. With usage of internet-enabled mobile phones becoming a norm these days, Google cannot miss the bus, and it has jumped into the bandwagon and has ventured into the field of mobile advertising.
The company has not entered into any network collaboration for its new handset. However, contrary to the expectations of analysts and consumers, Google has not reduced the phone’s price by utilizing advertising revenue.
In a recent interview to the BBC News, Danny Sullivan, editor of SearchEngineLand.com, said that Google had already envisioned that the future would see mobile phones that rely completely on ad-support. Google is already a well-known name in the world of advertising, and so it was quite natural for the company to launch a handset like The Nexus One.
Google’s new handset can be found in any of the web stores of the company for $529 (£332). This offer is without any network connection. A T-Mobile contract of two years will be added to another offer of the handset priced at $179 (£112).
