Virgin Accepts Delay in New Connections, Says ‘Overwhelmed With New Orders’

Customers who have subscribed to Virgin Media’s ADSL broadband service in the last few weeks may have to endure some delay in the activation of their services.

Virgin Media had marketed its relaunched ADSL broadband service in a grand way at the beginning of the month. The provider had advertised the service as being ideal for serving people who lived outside its cable network. The marketing campaign also highlighted the new improved services with speeds up to 20Mbps and the availability of its telephone line rental services – for a comparison with what’s on offer with the other service providers, click compare broadband.

The marketing drive led to an unexpected influx of customers that the company was not prepared to deal with. Virgin admitted to a news site, The Register, that it was finding it difficult to cope with the increased demand in the modem kit.

A Virgin Media spokesperson told The Register that orders had flooded the company since the relaunch of their National service with line rentals and a Best Speed Promise, which had caused the delay in getting ADSL broadband to the customers. The spokesperson also added that the shortage of modem kits had now been resolved and it was only a matter of time before customers could experience the new super-fast service. He also apologised to the customers for the delay in getting the connection.

However, The Register was not clear on whether the company had any plans to refund the activation amount of £30 to customers, whose connection had been delayed.
