Stalls on Online Poker Segment
The long-awaited, highly anticipated feature story that American news program 60 Minutes has been preparing on online poker will not air in October, as reported earlier this week, according to several poker news sites. Some are now reporting that the story has been moved back to an early November air date.
Also rumored to be changing is the focus of the story. While it was originally centered on the scandal at Absolute Poker, and later expanded to include the accompanying scandal at Ultimate Bet, some are now suggesting that the story will be a broader survey of the poker industry and the interaction of the US public and US Government with online poker.
There’s plenty of speculation regarding the schedule shuffling, but more likely than not it comes down to two factors: first, the relative insignificance of the story relative to breaking election news and second, the chance to piggyback the story on ESPN’s airing of the WSOP final table.
PokerNews.com is reporting that the Washington Post has plans to run an accompanying long-form article regarding online poker in early November as well
I hope that both of these news organizations purse a fair and balanced look at the world of online poker, instead of the predictable, “online poker is ruining society” type of story. I for one look forward to viewing this, and hope that players from around the world are able to see the report.
